Marco Carrasco | Founder & Strategic Advisor
Marco Carrasco’s work spans renewable energy, carbon management, private equity, infrastructure strategy, and cross-border development across Europe, the United States, and Latin America. Licensed in California and Mexico and operating from Madrid, he brings both legal structuring discipline and hands-on executive experience to long-cycle infrastructure and investment platforms.
As CEO of Carboncause, he led one of Spain’s earliest modern onshore CO₂ storage initiatives from inception. He built the platform from the ground up — shaping regulatory strategy, engaging Spanish and European institutions, structuring partnerships with Baker Hughes and Técnicas Reunidas, and securing two CO₂ site characterization permits before transitioning leadership to an execution-focused team in 2025. He also co-led CCS Forum Spain alongside the Global CCS Institute, convening institutional, industrial, and policy stakeholders to support the development of national carbon management and investment frameworks.
Through Carrasco Law, he operates a cross-border strategic advisory and infrastructure-oriented legal intelligence platform. For over two decades, he has advised internationally active investors, energy developers, and globally connected stakeholders navigating complex regulatory, legal, and commercial environments across the US, Mexico, and the EU.
Representative capability and strategic counsel includes:
-
Energy Transition & Infrastructure: Delivering strategic counsel for global independent power producers and private investment firms. He advised Paris-based Solairedirect (acquired by Engie) on its formation and operation in the Latin American solar market and represented Sonnedix Power Holdings (JP Morgan Asset Management) in the proposed acquisition of $250M in renewable development assets in Mexico. He has also conducted due diligence on $500M of "legado/auto-abasto" solar projects and advised on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for solar energy in Sinaloa.
-
Real Assets & Sovereign Land Use: Managing complex legal structuring for massive real asset developments, including a 2,000-unit project spanning 10 miles of coastline on the Sea of Cortez and complex ejido (agrarian) land conversions to private use. He has also acted in an advisory capacity to the City of Tijuana, drafting administrative regulations for land tenure regularization and municipal property acquisition.
-
Cross-Border M&A & Private Equity: Directing cross-border mergers and acquisitions, including the multi-million dollar sale and asset transfer of a maquiladora operation in Tecate/Tijuana. He has successfully represented developers in securing over $10M in cross-border private equity and commercial loans.
-
International Governance & Estate Planning: Structuring long-term continuity planning, corporate governance, and compliance for cross-border joint ventures and commercial real estate investments. He actively manages complex, multi-jurisdictional probate cases and civil/criminal property disputes for foreign owners.
What distinguishes his approach is an operator’s perspective. He focuses on building and advancing platforms in sectors where the regulatory pathway remains uncertain, stakeholder alignment is complex, and institutional credibility is essential for mobilizing long-term capital. That experience increasingly applies to emerging areas including grid-scale energy storage, data center infrastructure, carbon management, industrial transition, and next-generation power development — sectors where durable strategic infrastructure is being built today.
He operates at the intersection of legal strategy, infrastructure execution, regulatory coordination, and long-term capital formation for projects designed to endure across jurisdictions and market cycles.
